Over the past year, J3 Engineering Group has paired up with MSOE students to help repair and expand a fifty foot deck at Blue Lotus Farm and Retreat Center. Blue Lotus is a day camp that provides programs for children, adults, and seniors who may be facing life challenges or have physical disabilities. They are continually working on projects to improve the atmosphere for guests to enjoy.
Last year, repairs to the fifty foot section of the deck were made due to freezing and thawing over the years. This year, the final phase of the boardwalk project was implemented to expand and curve the deck further around the Blue Lotus Lagoon. Engineering and designs were provided by the MSOE servant leadership team with the guidance of J3 Engineering Group.
The new section contains 1000 linear feet of recycled decking and is wheelchair accessible with safety bumpers. Benches will also be added for a peaceful view of the lagoon. Thanks to the help of many volunteers, the only cost to the entire project was for materials, some of which were donated. The boardwalk project provided the opportunity for J3 Engineering Group to help the community and educate students on real world experience through their studies.
