St. Francis Borgia

Even the cold, brisk winter months of Wisconsin would not stop construction workers from fulfilling the vision of St. Francis Borgia Parish in Cedarburg – to build the Education and Activity Center (E&AC). It will be a gathering place for multiple purposes including 26 classrooms, a preschool and daycare, music, art, computer labs and a gymnasium. The gymnasium was engineered by J3 Engineering Group and Spancrete-a precast concrete manufacturer.

Engineering calculations for the gym were needed for hollowcore plank and panels as well as wetcast panels. This also included precast beams and columns that created the large openings in the walls. A 40 foot beam was necessary to support the roof and weight of the precast wall panels. This beam provided an unobstructed path between the platform and gym area.

Another unique aspect of the project is the wetcast wall panels with large openings, which required specific handling in order to ensure they did not crack during production, storage, transportation and erection.

All the time and dedication to those involved in this project will be a great achievement to ensure the E&AC is done on time. Anticipated completion of this project is this summer, by the 2015/2016 school year.
